iu bookmarket eatery

Bloomington, Indiana

Size: 3,200 sqft. | Completion: December 2014

Vision

The basement of Wells Library, a centrally located study and social hub, was a dark and scary place. The foodservice operation was maze-like in its layout and outdated in its service model. It did not meet the expectations of the students on the Bloomington, IN campus of Indiana University.

Design

In conjunction with the opening of the adjacent Global and International Studies Building, our design team was tasked with developing a serving environment that features distinct, globally-inspired food concepts. The goal was to attract the diverse student population occupying the new academic building and the library facility directly above this foodservice / collaborative study venue.

Impact

The Bookmarket Eatery has an open-air feel with ample queuing space and positive flow patterns for patrons who may also just be grabbing beverages or pre-packaged food items. Beyond its international flair, the food offerings here also include two outpost concepts with extended service hours. A branded national coffee chain operates here along with an in-house gelato/ice cream platform to serve students with sweet cravings as well.
