Farehouse Market

Chicago, Illinois

Completion: Winter 2019

Vision

This venue opened in a transformed industrial building right on the Chicago River. It was originally a warehouse for Montgomery Ward in the early 1900’s. The primary development focus was to restore the building to its original Art Deco design. The multi-concept food venue is designed to blend into the first-floor lobby based on its location near the front entrance of the building.

Design

RDG and Quest Food Management created distinct service areas that can be open or closed independently and offer differing dining experiences. The three restaurant concepts, the marketplace, and the café/bar can all operate in conjunction with one another or independently to accommodate different times of the day and appeal to neighboring residents. We also developed a new production kitchen in the basement, without running a new black iron (all ventless equipment) to support the various food venues.

Impact

A service area that can be open or closed independently and offers differing dining experiences. Three restaurant concepts, the marketplace, and the cafe/bar operate in conjunction or independently, saving on overhead cost and sustainability practices, as well as ease of use for both staff and patrons.
